How to Help

Made of Volunteers

Scouting is a charity and the vast majority of the people who “make it happen” for the young are volunteers. It’s very rewarding though, but without volunteers, there would be no “Scouting”. As explained in the “about” section there is a young leaders section in the Explorer Scouts for those who want to develop their leadership skills in working with the younger aged sections, but for adults there is a range of roles to suit everyone’s skills.

Executive Committee

A Scout Group is administered by an Executive Committee and their responsibilities include the administration of the finances, the equipment and property as well as the procurement of new leaders. These are non-uniformed roles, but many will also become helpers on occasions to support the leaders in a particular section in the provision of a particular event.

Leaders

Uniformed (Warranted) Leaders are responsible for the safe provision of activities for the young, through planning, training and supervision. In order to do this they are asked to complete a modular course involving a wide range of appropriate skills. The modular nature of this training allows the organisation to recognise existing skills and tailor training to the individual's needs.

CRB Check

All adults working with young people are required to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check to ensure the safety of the young people in their charge.
