The Scout Fellowship is a group of adults who have one thing in common – a wish to support Scouting

It welcomes men and women of all ages, interests and backgrounds.

There is no need to have been involved in Scouting or Guiding before, all that is required is a willingness to give some of your time to Scouting.

In return you will make friends and be able to join in with whatever you decide.  The Scout Fellowship has its own social and activity programme.

The Scout Fellowship:

Ø      Provides an opportunity to become connected to Scouting

Ø      Meets regularly but members can join in a way that suits them

Ø      Can provide “Active Support” through regular commitments or respond to calls for help on specific issues

Ø      Allows you to take part as much as you feel able

What do the Wokingham Fellowship Do?

The Scout Fellowship in Wokingham is often asked to organise car parking, marshal sponsored walks, help at events like family fun days or activity days – in fact, we do anything really except make the tea! We assist all sections and ages of Scouts.

Then if that isn’t enough, we organise social events for our own entertainment, such as skittles evenings, quiz nights, camping weekends, brewery/vineyard visits, day trips to France …… and much more!!

So if you have a bit of time to spare (doesn’t need to be a lot) and you want to give something to Scouting, then come and join us.

Providing Active Support

The aim of the Scout Fellowship is “Providing Active Support”, with the emphasis being very much on supporting the youth programme in an active manner.

Active Support encompasses the talents of the Scout Fellowship of all ages and abilities whether it is physical, mental, geared to a particular technical skill or general support.

It could be as a mentor to new leaders, catering for courses, running pioneering courses, assisting with hill walking, rock climbing etc.  We all have something to offer as far as supporting Scouting is concerned, whatever our age or ability.

Fellowship enews

Here is an Acrobat copy of the Fellowship newsletter from the Adult Support Team at Gilwell. This is the latest copy from July 2008.

A Thank You to the Scout Fellowship from Chief Scout, Peter Duncan

This letter from Peter Duncan appeared in the June/July edition of Scouting.

And here is an important message about members of the Scout Fellowship that might help explain one or two things. Are you registered? If not, let Lynn know.

An Evening at Dinton Pastures

In mid June, 20 members of the Fellowship were joined by four youngsters for a walk around the main lake at Dinton Pastures, followed by some refreshments and a meal at the Wheelwrights Inn. Here are some photos...

Devizes to Westminster?

Easter Weekend, as ever, saw the running of the Devizes to Westminster Canoe endurance event, but Easter being early this year meant that it was colder than ever and with a strong wind from the North, all felt it was bitterly cold. The Scout Fellowship were there to monitor the portage, collect canoe movement data and run a snack stall with warm drinks and those famous Bacon Butties. An opportunity to help with a long standing endurance event, started by Scouting, as well as raise some funds for the Fellowship. Here are one or two photographs. A big THANK YOU to those who turned out to help on both Saturday and Sunday in such inclement weather. And..a special mention to the members of SE Berkshire Fellowship who gave us a hand.

The latest News is that over £500 was raised towards Fellowship funds and as our biggest fundraising event of the year, that must surely put a smile on a few faces! Well Done!

2008 AGM

The AGM took place on 29th February at the Waterside Centre and was attended by some 18 members. Steph who had been doubling as ADC and Deputy District Commissioner would be standing down as ADC and Lynn Smith would be taking over. Tony Hayward would be taking over Lynn's role as Treasurer and other members of the executive would be continuing in their current roles although Gill Newman would be joining the Executive as a member. Lynn explained the numbers in the accounts, which included our major fund raising event, staffing the Devizes to Westminster checkpoint at the Waterside Centre and running a food stall there. Steph reported that once again the number of members was up, and was now standing at 31.

After a break for coffee, Tony Hayward showed us a film about the threat of long line fishing to Albatrosses in the Southern Ocean. He then gave a presentation on the "Year in the Life of Birds in the UK" which explained why the UK was such an important place for migrating birds.

Hobson's Choice

At the beginning of March a party of 10 gathered at Bella Italiana in Windsor for supper with an Italian flavour, before moving on next door to see the play Hobson's Choice at the Theatre Royal starring that great man (literally) John Savident.

The Green Man

On January 12th, 23 members of the Fellowship gathered in the cellar at The Green Man to celebrate the end of Scouting's first centenary and the start of 2008. Good food and a good time was had by all (judging by the amount of chatter!). Lynn asked everyone to join her in thanking Steph for organising things. There was discussion about a forthcoming trip to the theatre and a location for next year's dinner, but more of that later!
