Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between six and eight years
old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family.
Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver
Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping
others. They normally meet together once a week in a Colony.
Many
Beaver Scout Colonies also organise Sleepovers. These are often the first
time a young person spends a night away from home, but the overall programme
a Beaver Colony completes is carefully geared to the age range of the Beaver
Scouts.

1st Wokingham Beavers had a meeting on St Patrick's Day so they had a go at
making hats, beards, clothing and belts so they could dress up as
leprechauns. Thanks to Penny for
this photograph.

Parents!
Looking for Beaver Colony for your child? Sadly most Beaver Colonies
have waiting lists, a situation common throughout the UK. So look for a
Colony close to home by visiting the
Scout Groups page. Then you can click a link that will take you to that
Group's page which will give you an e-mail address so you can ask for your
son or daughter to have their name added to the waiting list. Very often
preference will be given to the children of those parents who are making a
regular contribution to the Group, for example as a leader. After all, no
leaders means no Beavers! For those who cannot undertake a regular
commitment as a leader, there are other roles involved in the the running of
a Scout Group which are mentioned on the
How to Help page.
