Adult Training News

* The Local Training Administrator for our area is Jean King, an old friend of scouting in Wokingham.

* Everything you need to know about Adult Training is on the County Web Site. Also there, you'll find a diary of courses and the opportunity to book yourself on to them.

* It doesn't matter if it's the Group minibus, or merely one you've hired for a specific activity, if it's being used for a scouting activity, the driver would benefit from the MIDAS Competence Certificate and Minibus Drivers Handbook. Berkshire Scout Enterprises provide a one day course leading to this certificate, and it's available to appropriate scout leaders and supporters at the special rate of £36. For the latest information on locations, dates and costs call 0118 988 6448. It is not mandatory, but it is advised.

Have a look at their leaflet.

* First Aid Training is available for Adults through Berkshire Scout Enterprise at a cost of £18. This meets the requirements of Module 10 of the Adult Training Programme.

However, First Aid Training also gets run more locally. Jeremy Burden is now fully trained to deliver the required training, so here are one or two things to think about:

bulletA First Aid certificate is valid for three years. Do you need a refresher?
bulletHave you been trained to use an Epi-Pen?
bulletAre you OK with CPR?
bulletHow about a Spinal Injury "Log Roll"?
bulletNew Leaders need a First Aid Certificate. The sooner the better.
bulletCould you organise a course to be run on your site?

So that's leaders, but if you'd like a First Aid session for your Pack or Troop, then Jeremy can help with that too.

* Leaders are required to attend "Child Protection" Training every 3 years and the next Workshop is scheduled for 27th April 2010, so make a note in your diary now.

Distance Learning

Some of the Adult Training Modules can be done over the internet. This link will take you to the appropriate page on the HQ web site, but you will need the right software on your PC. Amongst others that will include Windows Media Player and Interbet Explorer (both standard features of Windows) and also Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download by clicking on the logo at the bottom of the blue panel to the left of this page (if you don't already have it installed).

It is suggested that if you have been around for a while, this will be a handy way to complete things, although you will still need to get the training validated. For less experienced leaders, the benefit of going on a course is meeting others and comparing notes. There are few cjhallenges for leaders that someone hasn't already met and dealt with!
