District Football Tournament
2008 for Scouts and Cubs |
| The Tournament took place at Ryeish Green School on Sunday 8th June. A bright warm
June day may not be the best time to play a hard game of football,
but the Euro 2008 Championship has no problem with that, so why not?
The Scouts who took part were five teams from just three
Troops who played a five a side tournament with the following
results:
 | Winners of the Trophy - 1st Wokingham B |
 | Runners up - 1st Wokingham A |
 | Winners of the Plate - 4th Wokingham B |
 | Runners up - 1st Finchampstead |
 | Fair Play award - 4th Wokingham A |
It was a great day out, so let's hope more Troops take part next
year! |
| |
|
|
There were rather more Cubs on the day, so they
played seven a side. In memory of John Coates, who has done so much
for Cub Scouting over the years, a new shield to replace the Plate
was presented.1st Woosehill Kestrels managed to retain the Trophy
but overall, the results were:
 | Winners of the Trophy - 1st Woosehill Kestrels |
 | Winners of the John Coates Memorial Shield - 1st
Finchampstead Badgers |
 | Fair Play award - 1st Swallowfield A |
And now some photos captured at the event by Ruth and Andrew: |

| And the Adults match at lunchtime? A team of
leaders and parents from 1st Finchampstead, 1st Wokingham and
Malcolm played against a team from 1st Winnersh, 4th Wokingham, 1st
Woosehill and 1st Swallowfield, a kind of North/South divide. By
full time, the Southerners were 2 - 1 up. |

 |
| Sometimes those pitches
look awfully big! |
 |
 |
| ...and a crew from 1st
Swallowfield kept everyone refreshed |

 |
| Just one of the referees - wasn't he
a Cub once? |
...and organisers |
 |
 |
| Just two of the
prize-winning teams |
|
A special thank you must go to all those leaders,
parents and friends who made it all happen. There were organisers,
referees, coaches, supporters and refreshers to name but a few, and
it couldn't have happened without them. |
