Activities Page

This page is primarily aimed at those leading, planning or organising Activities.

Activities Flyer

Here's a new Activities Opportunities Flyer about some of the adventurous activities available to those of us in Scouting. Just click on this link to see this Acrobat document.

Letter from ADC Activities
Please take time to have a look at the Activities Newsletters on Scoutbase. They are full of useful information whether your planned activity involves scaling Ben Nevis, Flying or Circus Skills. There's a fresh one every six months or so.

Also, POR has been updated to require leaders to:
(a)  obtain a relevant weather forecast before an outdoor activity (see FS120088),  and
(b)  carry out Risk Assessments before and during activities (see FS120000)

FS = Fact Sheet - they can be downloaded from Scoutbase

The Nights Away Permit scheme has now been implemented nationally, so camps cannot be run without a Nights Away Permit, or Passport holder.
There are links to all sorts of useful web sites on the Links page, including the Met Office, Ordnance Survey and Outdoors, the Mail Order arm of Scout Shops Ltd.

District Equipment

During the early part of the summer, there was an audit of the District equipment that is looked after by 1st Wokingham. This is available for all Groups to borrow, but just so you know what is there, here is a list as at 17th July 2007.

Alps 2008

After the earlier success of County Expeditions to Slovenia and the Pyrenees, there will be an expedition to the French Alps in 2008. To find out more, click here.

Tony Hayward has produced this invaluable document on planning expeditions like Winter Hill Walking. It's in Acrobat format, but before you go ahead and print it - it is 60 pages long!

Pierce able gas cartridges

Most Groups will have stopped using pierce able gas cartridges, but if you have any still lying around, check this link out: www.scouts.org.uk/noticeboard/2008/April/100408.html.
