The District AGM was held at 1st Finchampstead on
the evening of 10th July and members of the District presented the
various reports. The key members of the Executive were elected
although there remained a key need for a District Secretary, so if
you have a little time... Dave Taylor had taken on the role of
District Treasurer and presented the accounts. More details will be
published elsewhere, but the celebrations of Scouting's first
centenary did mean that expenses had been higher than previous
years. The objective for the future would be to keep funds at a
level commensurate with being a charity ad so the goal for the
forthcoming year would be to reduce capital.
County Commissioner, Hamish Stout, (right)
congratulated the District and thanked all those involved in making
Scouting work in the area, but stressed his "obsession" with numbers
was about keeping the number of young people eligable to join, who
had names on waiting lists to an absolute minimum.
Andy presented a number of long service awards, and here are
just a few of those presented. Diana and Johnnie from 4th Wokingham
seemed to have been involved with 4th Wokingham, forever!
Gill Jones of 1st Wokingham had also been around for
at least 20 years and had done service as a Beaver Leader at 1st
Wokingham and as ADC Beaver Scouts. She would now be standing down
from Scouting to spend even more time with an even younger
generation - her grandchild. Andy also presented her with a small
gift to show Scouting's appreciation for all her endeavours.
Following the sad loss of the great man, Michael
Nightingale, a new award in his memory was made to 1st Finchampstead
for their work in developing links with the local community and in
growing Scouting in Finchampstead. Simon Gosden and Dave Judge,
joint GSLs for the Group accepted the Development Trophy from
Michael's widow, Avril.
The Harry Row Cup was presented to Debbie Parker, whose arm was
still sore after being "persuaded" to take on the role of GSL at 1st
Wokingham, a Group with a strong record of leadership and bringing
Scouting to a number of young people.
