Three members of the Cub Pack represented the District at the County Quiz on 26th April after they won the District Quiz....and they won! Well Done Guys! Here's a photo of the victorious team with Diana. Didn't they do well!

There are currently 18 boys in the Beaver Colony including 6 new joiners.  The Leader situation remains the same with Adam helping most weeks.  Another leader is needed for the pack. Recent activities have included a visit to Grays Farm, which proved very popular, and contributed towards the Healthy Eating Badge.  Also swimming at Palmer School, fun and games at Dinton Pastures, Air Activities Badge and the Sunrise Ceremony.

There are currently 26 boys in the Cub Pack, including 3 new boys that have come up from Beavers.  Two boys have gone up to Scouts.  The pack has a new helper, Rob Johnson, who has an army background and is interested in gaining experience of Scouting.  Tracy Kingston has agreed to become a uniformed leader. Activities have included the Athletes Badge, Firelighting, Katakanoeing, Abseiling, a District Football event, Pond Dipping and the Sunrise Ceremony. The Chief Scout's Silver Award has been given to Aidan Dolan, Christopher Taylor and Andrew Robertson.

In May, twelve intrepid Scouts ventured out on a night hike.  Armed with map and compass they soldiered on for 8 miles or so, to find their goal and place of rest – Hurst scout hut.  The weather deteriorated throughout the evening and it was a wet, cold, tired but cheerful group that arrived ready for their hot supper and a warm dry sleeping bag.  All the Scouts were awarded their Hike 1 badge. This summer the Scouts have been on a week’s camp at Hay-on-Wye in Wales, which 14 boys attended.  They have also been Canoeing and Pioneering.  Vicky Clubley has been helping out most weeks.

At the very beginning of March a group of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts gathered at All Saints Church Cemetery to plant a lime tree to commemorate Scouting's first centenary. Councillor Simon Weeks of Wokingham Borough Council and Oliver Ward of Heartwood Tree Services (who donated the tree) led the activities. Here are a few photographs taken at the event.

The following Saturday, a team of thee Cubs got 4th Wokingham in the headlines again by winning the District Cub Quiz. More...

What’s the best day to eat eye-balls? Fried-eyes!

From Thomas Holderness

“Knock, knock!”

“Who’s there?”

“Dishwasher!”

Diana is retiring at the end of the Summer Term 2007 after many, many years as Cub Leader. We have a strong team of Assistant Cub Leaders, but none of them is able to change roles at present so we need someone new to join the team and share the meetings and planning with the other Assistant Leaders.

Please think now of anyone you know – colleagues, friends, relatives, neighbours or even yourself – who would be suitable as a Cub Leader or Assistant Leader and ask them to contact the group as soon as possible.

If Tuesdays are not convenient or a different age group would be preferable, we could also do with an Assistant Beaver Leader to join Nikki and Peter with the Beavers on Wednesdays and an Assistant Scout Leader to join Jim and Rob with the Scouts on Mondays. Being a section leader or assistant leader is interesting, fun and fulfilling and there is a team of leaders and assistant leaders already in place so you would not be thrown in at the deep end.

If any parent would like to help the group but not as a leader then please consider joining the Executive Committee. The committee has an evening meeting approximately every 2 months and we need more parent representatives and will also need a new Committee Secretary to take over from Rosemary after the AGM in May,  please e-mail us or click on the contact page. You can even leave us a phone message!
