The Scouts go for their Climbers Badge
In May/June the Scouts set about completing the Climbers Badge. Under the leadership of 1st Winnersh GSL, Jez Burden, and Phoenix Explorer Leader Keith Gambles, 1st Winnersh and 3rd Wokingham Scouts did a couple of evenings' theory before going to Earleywood to put some of the lessons learnt into practice. Here are a few photos.
St George's Day Parade
The Group took part in the Saint George's Day parade towards the end of April and there's a photograph of the Troop as they prepare to march off thanks to Vicky Stanford. There are more photos on the Recent Events page.
The Troop went to "Summer" Camp
As the Troop left Wokingham, parts of the Town were under water. Was this a good time to be leaving, and would Hay on Wye be better? It seemed unlikely. In the event, Hay on Wye had missed the worst of the flooding, but it was a wet camp. The same farm and field as 2006, but puddles, soggy ground, some mud and strong winds featured. The river was well up, so canoeing was off the programme and the Troop remained site based, except for a walk along the river bank into Hay on Wye a couple of times. and a trip to Hereford towards the end of the week. The Scouts made the most of things and did not complain. We even played cricket (in the rain, of course). With brighter weather we held a mini olympics and stayed up late, one night, for a wide game organised by the three Explorer Scouts who were with us.Cooking was on open fires, which meant wood gathering was important in the damp conditions.

The day before we were due to leave, we were joined by Scouts from 1st and 4th Wokingham who joined us for a damp camp fire. At least the weather improved once we left!  Anyhow, there are one or two photographs here.
