Kestrels Defend the District Football Trophy

On Sunday June 8th, this team of Kestrels successfully defended the District Football Trophy. Nice one guys! More...

Kestrels' Autumn

Here are one or two photos of Kestrels activities taken during the Autumn term of 2007, including the Cubs that carved pumpkins for Halloween, a visit of the Pack to SEBEV (South East Berkshire Volunteers) and another of the team that represented the Pack at the District Cooking Competition in November (more pictures on the Cubs page). During the Halloween meeting the pack also invested no fewer than seven new Cubs. Well done guys! That visit to SEBEV allowed us to have a look at (and try out) a number of different types of stretcher, have a look around their emergency van and even try out their "Rat Run", where they practice finding victims in the dark.

Another evening during the autumn had a visit from Hurst Morris People and Akela captured a few photos.

The Group Celebrate Scouting's Sunrise

The Group celebrated Scouting's 100th anniversary literally at sunrise in St Catherine's Field on 1st August. A bit chilly, so there was a blazing camp fire and some energetic songs lead by Andrew and Fiona, the leaders of our Cub Packs. The Beavers renewed their promise lead by Alison, the Cubs followed and then everyone else who had at some stage been in the movement joined the Troop to renew theirs. After that it was time for a cooked breakfast and time to thaw out a bit. Here are one or two photographs, but if you have a good one, just pass it to the webmaster! Afterwards, a number of those present went to Wokingham Town Centre to join the rest of the District for the worldwide celebration at 8AM (local time).

Leader Vacancies

As 1st Woosehill vies with one or two other groups for the title “largest in the County” it inevitably has a pretty steady turnover in leaders, and a pretty broad range of opportunities, so we are ever on the lookout for leaders in all three age ranges (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts). Each age range offers a different challenge and has different needs from their leaders and so will suit different people. But with meetings on more than one night, we can usually find a role that suits an individual’s diary. Indeed for those of us who have very busy diaries, there are other “behind the scenes” roles which also help to enable a fun and challenging environment for young people to help them grow into a role in the modern world we live in today.

If you are considering the possibility of joining our team, please e-mail us for a "No Obligation" chat.  Should you join us, you will not be "thrown in at the deep end" or on your own.  We have a strong group with excellent support from our Executive Committee who are dedicated to providing the resources and facilities to develop the young people of our area.  Come and join our team, you will be made very welcome.

Having recently suspended a Scout Troop, due to a shortage of leaders, the Group are particularly keen to recruit leaders to the Scout Section.
